The best adventures in the UK

Want to spend your weekend in the UK enjoying the outdoors? Are you keen to get away from the television, mobile phones and laptops? Why not go on an adventure? Are you struggling to think of somewhere fun to take the family for a short break? While the UK is especially good at pubs and country gardens, there are also loads of more adventurous activities on offer too. From white water rafting to rock climbing, there really is something for everyone. Here are some great ideas to help you choose your perfect activity.

White water rafting

If you’re after a thrilling experience and don’t mind getting soaked, why not pull on a wetsuit and give white water rafting a go? Grab your friends and family and crash through the rapids on the River Tryweryn located in Snowdonia National Park. The centre is open all year round so you have plenty of time to book and prepare yourself. There is a range of different sessions for different adventures so you can take your pick.

Caving

The Peak District offers great locations for those who wish to experience caving, with a range of levels making this activity accessible for all ages. Don’t worry if you’ve never been caving before, you will be fully equipped with the right gear and instructors will help you along the way. They also offer training courses if you choose to take it up as a hobby.

Safari

Why not get up close and personal with your favourite animals at Port Lympne Safari Park? Visit a great range of animals from around the world, while travelling with fellow explorers in a safari truck. You could even turn your experience into a weekend short break away with the family and stay in one of the many different types of accommodation available.

Flying and gliding

Ever wished you could fly? The British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA) runs schools around the country which help you learn how to fly. The minimum age limit for the BHPA is usually 16 but it could differ depending on which school you are learning with, so don’t forget to check before you book your lessons.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is a great activity, which allows you to explore another world, under the sea. The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) offers opportunities to improve in-water confidence for all ages. There are centres all over the country so go on the website and find your nearest snorkelling centre!

Rock climbing

Rock climbing is a great way to get some exercise while having fun with the family. Adventure Britain host sessions around Wales including the Brecon Beacons and on the Gower Peninsula. They offer multiple levels allowing the activity to be accessible for everyone; they also offer indoor climbing for those who would prefer a guaranteed dry experience.

Go Ape

Have you ever wished to swing from the treetops like a monkey? Love monkeying around? Well, Go Ape offers that opportunity at multiple locations and for all ages. They also offer experiences for schools and parties for those more adventurous monkeys. Adults can climb from tree to tree and swing down the zip lines from £33 and children from £25.
